When I put the Seventh Step into action I must remember that there are no blanks to fill in. It doesn’t say, “Humbly asked Him to (fill in the blank) remove our shortcomings.” For years I filled in the imaginary blank with “Help me!” “Give me the courage to,” and “Give me the strength,” etc. The Step says simply that God will remove my shortcomings. The only footwork I must do is “humbly ask,” which for me means asking with the knowledge that of myself I am nothing, the Father within “doeth the works.”

Mais la phrase suivante : « De moi-même, je ne suis rien, c’est le Père qui agit en moi » a commencé à porter ses promesses merveilleuses et a pris tout son sens.

Quand je mets en pratique la Septième Étape, je dois me rappeler qu’il n’y manque aucun mot. Elle ne dit pas : « Nous Lui avons humblement demandé de (...) faire disparaître nos déficiences. » Pendant des années, j’ai rempli cet espace vide imaginaire par des expressions telles que « m’aider à », « me donner le courage de », « me donner la force de », etc. La Septième Étape dit simplement que Dieu fera disparaître mes défauts. Tout ce que j’ai à faire, c’est de le « demander humblement » ; pour moi, cela signifie que « de moi-même, je ne suis rien, c’est le Père qui agit en moi ».
